Elephantidae family free encyclopedia (Elephant) is the family of the order Pachyderm, and the only remaining family of the order Proboscidea.
Elephants are one of the animals in Indonesia. Elephants are mammals and is the largest land animals in the world. There are two species of elephant in the world, namely:

1. Asian Elephant (formerly known as the Indian Elephant)

2. African elephant

Elephant gestation period is 22 months, the longest compared to other land animals. Calf weight is generally 120 pounds. An elephant can live for 70 years.
Elephants also been used in warfare as war elephants, which are used to attack the enemy.
The species of elephants
African elephants are the largest land animals in the world. Throughout the year there are 55 million 500 species of elephants are known and only two extant species of the Asian elephant and the African elephant. Species of the Asian elephant and the African elephant berpecah beginning about two million years ago.
Asian elephant is different than African elephants. Asian elephants have smaller ears than African elephants bit, have a flat forehead, and two bulbs in the head is the highest peak of elephants, compared with the African elephant that has only one hump on the head. In addition, the end of the Asian elephant's trunk has only one lip, while African elephants have two lips at the end of the proboscis. Characteristics

Distribution of Asian elephants include India, Southeast Asia, including Indonesia and the western part of Sabah (East Malaysia). While African elephants persebaranya covers most of the mainland African grassland.
In Indonesia, there are elephants in Sumatra (the Sumatran elephant) and in Nunukan, East Kalimantan (Borneo elephants)

Food

Elephants are herbivores. He spent 16 hours a day to collect food crops. The food consists of at least 50% grass, coupled with leaves, twigs, roots, and a little fruit, seeds and flowers. Because elephants only digest 40% of the food he eats, they must consume large amounts of food. Adult elephant can consume 300 to 600 pounds (140-270 kg) of food per day. Sixty percent of the food left in the elephant's body undigested.

Reproduction

As a member of the class Mammalia, elephant breeding by way of a son. Elephants will keep her up to stand.

Social behavior

Elephants live in a structured social order. Social life of males and females are different. Females spent most of his life in a family group consisting of mother, daughter, sister, and aunt. This group is led by the oldest female. While adult male spends his time in his own life (not groups).

Preservation

Elephants are protected because they hunted for their tusks. Yet we know that "No ivory that is not cracked." Building on these terms, is it true that all it's cracked tusk? If so, what's the hunted?
